well it's all much smoother now. post-birthday, ready to unleash my ideas on an unsuspecting world!! I laughed, I cried, I joined a lawn bowls club - not in any kind of ironic secret life/crackerjack way either, but because it's a 'flamin great game' as john the club secretary says. planning on going up to the lucky number draw and evening bowls on a friday night in summer, and meeting new people.
this week have finally succumbed to the delirium of my creative process - creating musical scores on technical drawings of bridges. reading some theory, Jung was fun, he says the creative urge is close to a 'pathological state', although luckily not identical. He also describes the creative urge as being a living being inside the artist, that takes over part of the psyche in an 'autonomous complex' and transcends the artist's conscious intention. so there you go.
a little bit of Jung for you "thoughts that can only be apprehended intuitively, a language pregnant with meanings, and images that are true symbols because they are the best possible expressions for something unknown - bridges thrown out towards an unseen shore." gorgeous, I love a good philosophical bridge moment.
This week I also read an article by jane rendell, mentioning the French philosopher Michel Serres who talks about bridges and angels. "Certain places of transition or interchange, such as airports, other places of mass transit and sites of new technologies are the 'passing places of angels.' .. it is in such spaces that messages from angels increase in number and intensity. Serres notes that angels are the personification of prepositions, those small words that make connections between people, objects and places... Bridges operate much like prepositions - they make links between two. As places of mediation, of encounter and crossing, bridges are for me very much connected with angels. Within religious Scripture angels are spirits or heavenly beings who mediate between human and divine realms. Like Hermes, the Greek god with winged feet, angels are messengers, and also figures of transformation; the messages they bear can change things." (from Bridge: The Architecture of Connection, Lucy Blakstad 2002)
