a quick note to fill you in on the highlights of the past week, while my pasta boils in the rice cooker.
so, we tested the fm transmitters, all working beautifully. the mock-up of our bridge stream system was live in the lab last wednesday, sending the signal from one side of the room to the other via server, barix instreamer, fm transmission and then picking up on the radio. cool. wait til it's for real!
yes, have finally identified a singing bridge in singapore. the excitement. over ulu pandan canal, near sunset way - gorgeous rich textures and tones.
doing our best to get a test happening next week, and will take recording from that if we can't get further live stream access. what else. meeting with all the artists and guna, our festival artistic director who arrived last week. had the chance to meet and talk through the work with him on friday at the museum, very reassuring and helpful, a sense that things have actually progressed, and according to him, my having identified the system required to create the next phase of the work is already a success. brilliant! now just have to make the work, in some form or another. ok, it's actually very clearly and precisely planned. resolved the installation issues, cabinets being made now by the contractors, lcd screens on their way, speakers placement and distance between each signal checked.
using guna's ear level as the golden mean - nice.
met with lynn yesterday to discuss performance work, and today hung out on the bridge we're going to use, talking about love and mythology and suspension....
made my first live tv appearance on channel news asia, with momoyo, chatted about art and bridges. have hilarious juxtaposition in 'mypaper' article with miss universe hopefuls in bikini's next to girl in hardhat.
have almost resolved work flow and plan for sound composition now, meeting with sonicbrat on tuesday, brian on monday and elizabeth on wednesday, plus various other professional talks and meetings.
almost feel energized and focused again - after l managed to disengage the chinese dragon of twenty-five people swinging around behing my every move. even went swimming twice last week - working on the mind.body balance thing - crave being in the water every day now. it's so calming and gives me the space to find mental clarity and work through ideas.
scribbling wildly all over my notebooks, some of which will make it into the work, some is plans for life in general, and other parts fade away as the paper ages.
think I've also worked out how to translate art ideas into engineering terminology - fantastic, so, just wait and see what we come up with next!! it's amazing having this place to work, with people throwing resources at me - struggled to catch them all at first, but think I am deploying the energy and help wisely now. this is an amazing experience.
