Singapura Punks Not Dead!!!

Yes, I finally managed to dig deep enough into the local scene to find myself at a hardcore punk gig last night. Thanx to the boys for wording me up and taking me along. There was a pogo-mosh pit going, with some crowd surfing - that apparently used to be illegal, along with almost everything else, although it's all lightened up a little now - and the happiest punks I've ever seen. Greeted at the door by a smiling man in black, who introduced himself, shook my hand and said 'welcome', then opened the door to a room full of the only 'real' punks I've seen here, all piercings, chains, studs, black denim (well, it's way too hot for leather), and spiky hair with almost attitude to match. The band line- up was fantastic, one set consisted of only songs 30 seconds and under, think the shortest was 8 seconds, extremely tight and frenetic. Next on was the act who had the crowd dancing in manic circles around the room, bouncing off each other, being thrown in the air - wild energy. Magnicide, Hen, Wormrot and Magrudergrind (moshington dc thrash grind power violence)

So, there you go, have satisfied my inclination to find the punk side of singapore. Finally. It's only taken the 9 weeks - seriously underground.

Woke up this morning with Bowie's 'Starman' running through my head, so having a mini-festival on youtube. There's a great 'live by request' series with David taking requests from callers, and playing the songs - the cutest was a 5 year old kid who asked for 'ashes to ashes'. I saw Bowie play in Melbourne a few years ago, still one of the best live gigs ever - such incredible stage presence, generous relaxed performance. Beautiful and iconic.
